Son of William R (Robert or Reddick) and Mary Feltcher (Williams) Massengale, born in Itawamba Co., MS. The year of birth on his gravestone is 1881, but his World War I draft registration card, which he signed, listed his year of birth as 1880. His occupation on the card was plumber.
He married first in Monroe Co., MS on 26 July 1901 to Mary L Doyberry, and they had two sons before her death - Leonard Massengale (born in 1901), and Arthur Pete Massengale (born in 1907).
He married second on 12 May 1908 (probably in Durant, Bryan Co., OK) to Cordie Hancock. Together they raised five children, Hazel Massengale (born in 1911), John Massengale (born in 1913), Luther Massengale (born in 1915), Jesse S Massengale (born in 1916), and Mary Massengale (born in 1921).
