BADER, JAMES L., 72, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at his residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Louisville Police Department after 30 years of service. James was a member of the FOP Lodge # 614, Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council # 12354, and St. Bernard Catholic Church, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He graduated from Flaget High School and the U of L Southern Police Institute. He was born May 16, 1934, the youngest of eight children of Rose and Louis Bader, all of whom are now deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Peggy) Wathen Bader; an infant daughter Diane, and an infant grandson Christopher. Survivors include his wife, Doris Simpson Bader and children James (Larry) Bader, Jr. (Denise), Deborah Miller (Danny), Steven Bader, Alan Bader (Paula) and Kathleen Rochford (John); grandchildren, Adam Bader, Kristin and Leslie Miller, Powers and Bruce Gillespie; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Loy.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at his church, 7500 Tangelo Drive, with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. A prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.
