George was the son of Henry Beaven & Mary Cooksey. He married Barbra Ellen Hendrickson on 8 December 1851 & they had 8 children. They divorced. He married Martha A. Anderson on 26 December 1880 & they had 1 son. He married Ann Hamilton Van Cleave on 15 January 1888 & they had 2 children. George was a farmer. He served in the 7th Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War. While on duty at St. James, NE, guarding against hostile Indians along the Missouri River, Corporal Bivin was thrown forward over his horse's head when the horse stepped in a hole drifted over with snow. When he landed on the frozen ground, he incurred a broken arm & wrist, injury to the left elbow, & internal injuries. Because George was unable to get proper medical care, his arm mended a little crooked, & suffered effects from these injuries the rest of his life.
