GEORGETOWN -

Jennings O(scar) Guerry, 90, retired owner and operator of the former Georgetown Loggers Supply, died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Wayne United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen R. Jordan and Rev. Gene Norris.

Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will be held at 3:30 p.m. following the service on Thursday at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jamestown.

Mr. Guerry was born March 15, 1917 in Berkeley County, a son of the late Elisha Fowler Guerry and the late Livonia Lee Guerry.

He was married to the late Embelle Jenkins Guerry on July 4, 1947.

He was educated in the Berkeley County School system and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps program from 1935-1937. Mr. Guerry was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps (8th Air Force) in England. He was first employed by Singer Sewing Machine Company and he later owned and operated Georgetown Loggers Supply.

He was a faithful and dedicated member of Wayne United Methodist Church since 1954 where he served in numerous capacities, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of the Men's Club. Mr. Guerry was also a dedicated member of the Georgetown Lion's Club for over 37 years, serving as President for 2 terms. He served as Director of the SC Lion's Eye Bank and as the State Chairman of the Lion's Mobile Health Screening Unit. He attended 5 International and 30 State Conventions. He received the SC Lion's Patron Award and was elected to the SC Lions Hall of Fame in 1998. He is a recipient of the highest award of Lionism, The Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

Mr. Guerry served on the Georgetown County Beautification and Improvement Commission and was a former instructor at the Georgetown Education Center. He was selected for Whos Who in SC in 1974 and Outstanding Americans in the South in 1975. Mr. Guerry was a devoted and loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who will truly be missed by his family, extended church family, Fellow Lions, neighbors, and many friends.

Surviving are: two sons, Jennings Oscar Brunson (Clara) of Moncks Corner from a previous marriage, and Charles J. Guerry (Caroline) of Nashville, TN; one brother Elisha Fowler Guerry, Jr. (Charleen) of Lincoln, NE; three grandchildren Joseph M. Brunson (Dana), James A. Brunson (Gail), and Genevieve L. Guerry; and 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and a sister, Annie Lee Guerry Norton.
