Kenneth Charles Ackley

Kenneth C. Ackley, age 73 of Owosso, went to be with his Lord on Saturday August 9, 2014 at McLaren Regional Hospital in Flint. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at St. Paul Cemetery. A rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 6 PM. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Jennings-Lyons Chapel in Owosso on Monday 6-8 PM and on Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM.

Kenneth was born in Durand, MI on July 11, 1941, the son of Arthur H. & Evva (McLeod) Ackley. Kenneth's ancestors descended from John Alden who was one of the original settlers of the Mayflower. He graduated from Perry High School in 1960, where he lettered in football and track. Ken was an avid Michigan and college football fan. He coached football, baseball, and basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Klapko, on March 31, 1962 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served his country in the Navy from 1961 to 1966. Ken worked for general Motors in major repair for 35 years, retiring in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, children; Janet (Jeff) Kominek of Flushing, Kimberley (Charles) Sumrack of Owosso, and Dr. Kenneth (Patty) Ackley of Owosso, 7 grandchildren; Steven, Lindsay, Brandon, Jakob, Chase, Liliana and Eden, great granddaughter Cryselin, great grandson Collin, brothers Arthur Ackley of Perry, Virgil (Rosemary) Ackley of Morrice and Alexander (Olga) Ackley of Atlanta, GA, his mother Evva Ackley of Perry. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur, and brothers Delbert and Warren. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Roof and Parking Lot Fund.
