United States Naval Officer. He was the commanding officer of the "USS Pueblo", a United States Navy ship that was monitoring communist activities in international waters off the coast of North Korea. On January 23, 1968, the ship was attacked by North Korean torpedo boats. One sailor was killed and 82, including Commander Bucher were captured. They were beaten and tortured for 11 months until they were finally released December 23, 1968. The ship was not returned. In 1989, after years of denials, the Pentagon finally gave Prisoner of War medals to the crewmen. (bio by: Erik Lander)
