William McGaw emigrated to Abbeville District, S.C. from Ireland at the age of 17. He was a Revolutionary War veteran. William, his wife Mary, and family emigrated to Preble County, Ohio from South Carolina in 1811 where he became a Ruling Elder in the congregation of Hopewell Church.
