Mrs. Daniel Burkett Claimed by Death
Mrs. Vertie Viola Burkett, 68, wife of Daniel Burkett, died at 8:30 Sunday evening at her home at 322 East Washington Street. She had been ill six months and death was attributed to arterio sclerosis.
She was born June 8, 1881 in Greenville, Ohio to John and Nancy Burkett Swartz. Her marriage to Daniel Burkett took place in Bluffton on Feb. 6, 1901. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Pythian Sisters lodge and Poplar Grove club. No children were born to the union.
Surviving besides the husband are a brother, Elbert Swartz, of Portland and two sisters; Mrs. Ira Meeks or Parker and, Mrs. Eva Thorp of Bluffton. Two brothers and a sister are deceased.
The body will be taken at 6 o'clock this evening from the Jahn funeral home to the residence where friends may call. The body will be returned at 12:30 Wednesday to the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home with rev. E. E. Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery.
