Per Lt. Col. George C. Markel, CO of the 698th Field Artillery Bn, Lt. Moore died at five o'clock on 11 April 1945. He was an aerial observer spotting enemy positions when his L-5 Stinson observation plane was fired upon by small arms fire. He was hit by the ground fire, was shot down and died instantly.
