Arlene Marie Bac passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 in her home on Hood Canal, WA after a nearly three year battle with cancer.

Arlene was born November 26, 1936 in the Shelton Valley, WA to Elmer and Dorothy Manke. She was the fourth of eight children. She graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in Shelton.

Arlene was married to Edwin Bac for 55 years until he preceded her in death in 2007. They lived in Shelton, WA where they raised their three children; Mike, Kathy, and Mitch. Arlene was the consummate housewife and homemaker. She also worked outside the home. She and her husband Ed owned and operated Apex Grocery on Mountain View for several years. She worked as a secretary for Manke Lumber Company in their Shelton office for many years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Larry Manke Logging. She even taught classes for a short period at the Washington Corrections Center outside of Shelton. Arlene enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends at her scenic home on Hood Canal. She had a great appreciation for God's creation and loved looking outside and taking in the ever changing nuances of its beauty. She was a fantastic cook and baker and loved taking care of loved ones when they would come to visit. She also liked to travel and had many enjoyable trips with family and friends over the years. Other interests included playing the piano, arranging flowers from her yard and knitting. Arlene was a devout Christian and was a member of the Evergreen Lutheran Church in Seabeck, WA. She loved learning about God and studying His Word. She had several daily devotionals she would read and her Bible was well used and worn. She had a gift for loving others in a nearly supernatural way. She had a seemingly limitless reservoir of love for those who needed to have their cups filled with some encouraging words or a hug. She is survived by her children; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers; and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her daughter-in-law, Deby, her parents, Elmer and Dorothy, her brothers Larry, Virgil and Ray, brother-in-law, Jerry Byrne.

Services will be held on December 13 at 2:00 PM at the Evergreen Lutheran Church located at 3200 Seabeck Holly Rd NW, Seabeck, WA 98380. In lieu of flowers Arlene requested that donations be made to any charity that benefits children. Arrangements by McComb & Wagner www.mccombwagner.com.
