Edward is a son of George Thomas and Ann Elizabeth Roundtree Beal. Ann "Lida" is a daughter of Junius Meredith and Martha Jane Miller Roundtree. Edward obtained his education from Ozark College at Morrisville; Missouri Medical College at St. Louis 1886-87; and Jefferson College 1887-88. He began his medical career at the office of Dr. Tefft in Springfield. In 1889 he came to Republic where he established his own practice. Edward married Mary Eliza Landers on March 30. 1889, Dadeville, Dade County, MO. Their only child is their adopted son Luther.
