Dena Anderson, 84, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Hamilton's Funeral Home 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home.

Born April 10, 1927, Dena Marie Osborn was the daughter of Hugh and Lena (Thompson) Osborn. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High in 1945. Following graduation Dena completed her degree at Drake while working as an elementary teacher in Keokuk and Grinnell. Dena then moved back home to teach 40 years in the Des Moines area at Longfella, Granger, and later retiring from Jackson Elementary as the Vice Principal.

In 1950 she was united in marriage to Derrold Melvin Anderson. The couple attended Grandview Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church for 47 years. Dena also taught Sunday school at the churches. Dena enjoyed her career and working in the garden. Mostly she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Derrold; siblings, Joan Bales, Calvin (Dixie) Osborn; daughter-in-law, Karen Berg; and sister-in-laws, Helen and Vicki Osborn. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Timothy Anderson; and siblings, Hugh Osborn, Ned Osborn, Jerry Courtney, and Katherine Minks.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Timothy Camp Fund in memory of her son.
