HATTERAS, NC - Andrew Shanklin Austin, 60, died Saturday in Albemarle Hospital. He was a native and life-long resident of Hatteras. He was the husband of Mrs. Ruby Meekins Austin and was a retired motel operator.

He was a member of VFW and an Army veteran of World War II.

Besides his widow, survivors include a son, Gary Andrew Austin of Hatteras; four sisters: Mrs. Carlos Oden of Hatteras, Mrs. Donald Skakle of Chapel Hill, Mrs. Curtis Newton of Greensboro, and Mrs. Virgil Wilson of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Hatteras United Methodist Church by the Revs. D.B. Lawrence, Herman Soderburg, Joseph Moser, and David Reiner. Burial will be in Oden Cemetery. Twiford Memorial Chapel in Hatteras has charge.
