United States Navy Rear Admiral. He graduated from the Annapolis Naval Academy in 1927 and then attended Submarine School at New London. During World War II Lt. Commander Burlingame was the skipper of the newly commissioned USS Silversides SS-236. Under Burlingame's command he took her on her first five war patrols and he and his crew sunk 11 ships totaling 71,700 tons. He was awarded the Navy Cross and was placed on The Roll of Honor at the Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor. Prior to his retirement from the Navy he was promoted to Rear Admiral.
