William Blair Arbuckle was born in New York to parents who were natives of Scotland, Nathanial Arbuckle and his wife Agnes Blair. Isabella Smith was born in New York state as well, of Irish descent and was the daughter of James and Maria Smith of Delhi, Delaware County, NY.
William married his wife Isabella Smith in New York and some of their 6 children were born there prior to their journey to California in 1868. The family relocated to Santa Rosa by the year 1870, and later to San Simeon, where William was both a farmer and a teamster before his death in 1904.
