1936 ~ 2012
On Friday, September 21, 2012, Joyce Mae Palmer Andrews peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father. Six months ago, upon being diagnosed with liver cancer, her wish was to spend time with her family. Her wish was granted as she enjoyed a healthy summer. She was blessed to spend her last months at home, cared for by her loving husband.
Joyce was born on February 29, 1936 in Grantsville, Utah. She was the third of five children born to D. Lester and Amy Palmer, with her two younger brothers passing in their youth. Thanks to being a leap year baby, she was able to stay young. During her 76 years, she only celebrated 19 birthdays.
After graduating from East High School in Salt Lake City, she attended Henagers School of Business, where she met the love of her life, Wayne Andrews. They were married August 19, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple, and spent 57 years together as best friends. They lived in Salt Lake, Utah for five years, Las Vegas, Nevada for 19 years and Nephi, Utah for the past 33 years.
Service was always important to Joyce. Her first church calling was in primary when she was only 12 years old. In the years that followed, she held many church callings. Joyce loved her time serving at the Manti Temple. She also enjoyed the hours she spent serving in Kiwanis and at the elementary schools in Nephi.
Joyce would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was being a helpmate to her husband and raising her family. Throughout her married life, she was a true companion, ally, and counselor to her husband; they truly traveled through life together. They lovingly raised four children. They were also examples to 22 grandchildren and 12 and a half great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Lester Palmer; mother, Amy Hemingway Harman Palmer; brothers, Ralph and Glenn; and one great-grandson. She is survived by her husband, Wayne S. Andrews of Nephi, Utah, brothers, Dean and Earl Palmer, and children Ray (Kim) Andrews of Nephi, Utah; Chris (Tracy) Andrews of Placerville, California; JoLayne (Terry) Olson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Ron (LeAnn) Andrews of Spanish Fork, Utah.
For those who wish to pay their respects, a viewing will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Anderson Funeral Home (94 West 300 North) in Nephi, Utah from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral and celebration of her life will follow on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the L.D.S. Chapel at 222 South 100 East in Nephi, Utah at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Joyce will be laid to rest in the Nephi Vine Bluff cemetery.
