Son of Jeduthen Ayers and Lucinda Twedell Ayers; married Jane Elizabeth Swink on October 6, 1858 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Company F "Fisher's Rifle Guard", 7th North Carolina Infantry, Lane's Brigade, Wilcox's Division, 3rd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Rowan County NC; a 5'7" 21 year-old Farmer.
Enlisted on 6/21/1861 at Rowan County, NC, he was mustered into "F" Co. NC 7th Infantry as a Private on 8/21/1861 at Camp Mason.
Promoted to Sergeant 2/1/1863 "for gallantry and good conduct".
He was Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA.

The 7th Regiment was a North Carolina Confederate infantry unit formed at Camp Mason (Graham, NC) in Alamance County, North Carolina in August 1861. It was mustered in for the term of the war on August 21, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Iredell, Alexander, Cabarrus, Rowan, New Hanover, Mecklenburg, Nash, and Wake.
It lost 11 killed and 28 wounded at Spotsylvania.
