Vertie Lee Robbins Allen, 85, of Statesboro and formerly of Savannah died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Statesboro Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

She was born in Bulloch County and had lived in Savannah for the past 68 years, prior to moving to Statesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Allen.

She was retired from J. C. Penney, having worked as a saleslady for over 30 years. She was a member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church, the Ruth Sunday School Class, and the WMU.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Ellen Allen of Metter and Kenny and Deborah Allen of Savannah; a brother, Floyd Robbins of Garden City; two sisters, Alma Goodwin of Statesboro and Joann Tucker of Excelsior; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Ardsley Park Baptist Church with Rev. Edward J. ‘Buddy’ Clay Jr. and Dr. Calvin Webb officiating.

Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers were John Waldhour, Tim Formby, Gerald Tucker, Joe Pye, Ray Robbins and Andy Robbins.
