"OBITUARY. Samuel Alvin Derr.
Samuel Alvin Derr was born in Centerville, Platt county, Illinois, February 16, 1872. He died at his home in Alva, Oklahoma, December 30, 1948, at the age of 76 years and 10 months. With his parents he moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska in February 1886. In 1891 the family moved to Spring Ranch, Nebraska. In February 1894, he moved to Alva, Oklahoma where he has since made his home. Mr Derr received his education in the schools of Nebraska. He was converted at the age of 14 in a revival held in a school house east of Blue Hill and conducted by Rev. John Walker.
He was the youngest son, and the ninth child in a family of ten children. He was the last member of that family, all of the rest having preceded him in death.
He was married to Maude Elda Fincher April 9, 1902. Three daughters were born to this union, the eldest dying at childbirth. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Ruth Murrow of Alva, and Mrs. Ella Lee also of Alva. He is survived also by his widow, the Reverend Mrs. Maude E. Derr of Alva, two sons- in-law, Clarence Murrow and James Lee, both of Alva, three granddaughters and a grand son-in-law Dan Evans of Alva.
Mr. Derr was a quiet cheerful, unassuming, devout Christian man. More than thirty years ago he became interested in a ministry of the gospel among the rural people of Woods county. Although not a minister himself, he gave freely of his means, time, and service in helping to get the gospel to neglected communities. For more than eleven years he has stood faithfully by his wife in her pastoral labors in the Cora Nazarene church 15 miles west of Alva.
He had been a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene for more than thirty years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Cora church.
Mr. Derr began working for the Golden Krust Bakery of Alva in 1943 and at the time of his death a valued and faithful employee."
