Billy Jay Derryberry, 75, of Calera, passed away Tuesday evening, March 24, 2009, at the hospital in Durant. Graveside services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Kiowa Cemetery, Kiowa. Bro. Lee Armstrong will officiate.

Billy was born June 20, 1933, to Raymond and Beulah Mae (Wilson) Derryberry in Kiowa. He married Betty Bailey on Sept. 26, 1960, in Sherman, Texas. He attended Kiowa schools, then enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1953. After his enlistment was up, he went to work for MKT railroad, where he worked as a signal maintainer. He was a member of the DAV and like to fish and camp. He was always tinkering with motors of some sort. He was a member of Victory Life Church in Durant. What he loved most was the time he spent with his family. Billy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene and Ernest Derryberry, and grandson Chad Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of the home; sons Billy Ray Derryberry and wife Tina, Calera, Jim Derryberry and wife Charlotte, Wilson, Gary Canada and wife Debbie of Pottsboro, Texas, and Terry Perry and wife June, Ruther Glen, Va.; daughters Debbie Johnson and husband Bruce, Durant, and Pat Wilkins and husband Jim, Moore; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service, Durant. Online condolences may be left for the family via the Web site,
