|Birth: ||Mar. 30, 1843|
|Death: ||Aug. 13, 1875|
Was born in Ashton Breage Cornwall England in 1843 he emigrated to America in the mid 1860s just after the Civil War with his three brothers William. James & Frederick, They all came to Nevada in 1868 To start working in the Local Siliver mines and in 1869 he married Anna Williams and settled down to the good life.
On July 22 1875 he was badly hurt in a Mining accident were an Ore car crushed his left leg forcing the Doctor to amputate the mangled limb. Very Much weakend by this he couldn't fight off the infection that set in and 22 days later on Aug. 13 1875 he passed away at age 35
His Loving Wife and 3 Brothers & Bother in law erected this now Vandalised Head stone in his honor. It appears that Anna & The Rest of the Cock family left the Gold Hill area some time before 1880 Except John Williams (Brother in Law) Who died in 1888 (He is also listed in find a grave and his grave is next to John. He is also a native of Cornwall England) The Attached Photo of John is Courtesy of The Wild West Museum on "C" Street Virginia City Nevada and I thank them for letting me copy it for find a grave.
The Photo of his Vadalised Grave stone was taken is Sept. 2001 (Sorry about the shadow) It is Hoped by this writer that the ghost of John Cock haunts the dreams of the Dastards that get a sick joy out of smashing grave markers.
The other two photos show you what the Gold Hill NV City Cemetery looks like today.
