NEW LEXINGTON -- Albert Lawrence Fogarty, 91, of Somerset, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Pickering House in Lancaster
He was born Sept. 21, 1916, in McKees Rocks, Pa. He was a heavy equipment operator for Peabody Coal Co., a 56-year member of the Knights of Columbus, 1065 past Grand Knight -4th degree, 50-year member of Bishop Fenwick 812, member of Elk's 509 of New Lexington, Somerset Lions Club and served as past president and a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church, were he served as a eucharist minister and member of the finance committe.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sophie Kocay Fogarty, whom he married Oct. 12, 1940; his children, Albert "Butch" (Emily) Fogarty of New Lexington and James (Vickie) Fogarty of Thornville; Sister Joan Fogarty OSF of Dublin; a son-in-law, Richard Starner of New Lexington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; George Thomas and Margaret Howells Fogerty; a daughter, Betty G. Starner; a son, William Richard; sisters, Alice Kasper and Marg Muran; and brothers, Howard, Thomas and George Fogerty.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 24, at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, 118 S. Jackson St., with Elk's services at 7 p.m., Rosary and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 5757 Ohio 383 NE, Somerset, with Monsignor William Maroon and Father Joseph A. Breen as celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance & Christian Charity, 4421 Lower River Road, Stella Niagara, N.Y. 14144 or Pickering House, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
