Clarence LaVerne "Vern" Adams, the sixth child born to Robert and Martha Lyon Adams, and the third to live past infancy, was born on August 7, 1877 at Howard, Kansas. Vern was raised in Kansas and Oklahoma. He attended Lane University, and taught school in Kansas and Oklahoma. He farmed at Hackney, Kansas and later was engaged in the produce business at Blackwell, Oklahoma. After the death of his first wife he moved to California where he met and married his second wife. In Los Angeles, he worked for the public schools as an engineer. He later worked for the Goodyear Company.

On August 12, 1902 Vern married at Hackney, Kansas to Rena C. Smith. Rena was born January 14, 1877 at Vevay, Indiana. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Smith and Celestine McClintock Smith.

The children of Vern and Rena were Cecil LaVelle Adams and Harland Haskell Adams.

Vern married for the second time on May 23, 1928 in Los Angeles, California to Mrs. Belle Husted Yost. Belle was born December 16, 1881 at Topeka, Kansas. Her father was Thomas Husted born in Indiana. Her mother was Almeda Belle Griffin.
Belle and Vern had no children

Vern died on March 24, 1955 at Los Angeles, California. He was buried at Inglewood cemetery, Inglewood, California with service in the Chapel of the Chimes, Rev. W. Hess officiating.
