Mary Elizabeth grew up in Memphis, TN. She loved the social life with friends at school and church. She was a member of the debate team and performed in operettas. Elizabeth was one of the founders of Sigma Sigma, a high school sorority with chapters in Memphis, Vicksburg and Birmingham.
Elizabeth married Alvin J. Rogers of Vicksburg, MS in 1937. After living in Vicksburg for a few years, the couple returned to Memphis where they raised three children in the family home built in the early 1900s by her maternal grandparents.
Elizabeth was one of the first women elected to the Board of Stewards at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Memphis. She was a Sunday School teacher and Youth Fellowship leader for many years. Liz was a member of the Golden Key Circle of the King's Sons and Daughters. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
After her husband's death in 1968, Elizabeth was employed for fourteen years as an administrative assistant in the Trust Department of the National Bank of Commerce.
Liz was an excellent cook and hostess. She was also an proficient seamstress. She enjoyed playing piano for church social events and for her Sunday School class. Elizabeth also enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and gardening.
