Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) First Class John Junior Fiedler was killed aboard the USS Forrestal when it was operating on Yankee Station off the coast of North Vietnam conducting combat operations. A Zuni rocket accidentally fired from an F-4 Phantom into a parked and armed A-4 Skyhawk. The subsequent JP5 fires and explosions from 1000 & 500 pound bombs took the lives of 134 crewman. He was one of them. John is buried with 17 of his crewmates in a common grave marked "USS Forrestal". John's hometown was Janesville, Wisconsin.
