Funeral services for Gladys Mable Williams were held on Sunday, July 14, at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop. Graveside services were held on Monday, July 15, at Salado Cemetery in Salado.
Mrs. Williams was born on August 10, 1920 in Freestone County to Elmer and Alma Daniel. She had one brother and four sisters. Mrs. Williams is survived by her sister Agnes Bruce Hall of Teague.
She attended and graduated from Teague High School in 1938. Mrs. Williams married Jack Lane Thomas on January 27, 1938. Together they had one daughter, Jackie Garnel. She was widowed in 1938.
On January 30, 1942, she married John Carlton Gardner. They had seven children: Robert C. Gardner, Daphne Ann O'Neal, Ronnie G. Gardner, Bonnie M. Schmittendorf, Wyndell G. Gardner, Dennis W. Gardner, and Terry L. Gardner. Mrs. Williams was blessed with twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
In 1979 she retired from Fort Hood. Mrs. Williams was very active and enjoyed life. She loved visiting friends and playing dominoes at the 55 Center. Her favorite past times included swinging on her porch swing on her front porch, spending hours on her computer, and spending quality time with her family. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She will be missed dearly.
