Departed from this Life, Sunday Night @11:35pm. Age 87. Place- West Side Hospital (currently known as Centennial Hospital, combined West Side and Park View forming Centennial a HCA owned facility.) This comes from his Funeral Registry Book given to me, by Great Grand Mother, Willie Ann Burgess Green. His Residence listed in the register book lists: 611 Sycamore Road., Nashville, TN
Charles "Charlie" Wheeler Green last child born to Elizabeth "Eliza" Ann Farmer with Jonathan Andrew
"Jack" Green. My great grandfather did not know his mother Eliza as she died when he was age 1. His father remarried to Martha Elizabeth Carney in which Martha and Jack had 3 children; Thomas C. Green "Tom". Annie P Green Prince. John Green. My great grandfather extremely closest to his brother Thomas., in which he talked about often with me.
Charles as family called him Pappy was an endearing man. He was tall, and had a love for his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren. I am the first born Great Grandchild to him and Mammie , Willie Ann Burgess.
Their first born son Edward Lee Green "Ed" is my grandfather, I am the first born Grand Child to GrandFather, Ed and Myrtle. I felt and knew Love by them.
Pappy had an excellent Alto singing voice like his father Jack. He used it well with this Ministry and he had a Radio Talk Show aired with Rev.,J W Shoulders in Bordeaux to which they would read Scripture from the Bible and had a special surmon to attach with the Scripture. Then at the close of the radio show, my Pappy would 'Sing' to his Gospel Music. He was well known for this and people not only living in Cheatham County loved him but in Nashville Davidson County TN.
Pappy was elated when getting a phone call from Rev., J W Shoulders with news saying to me, " People of the community are enjoying our Sermon as we have been expanded in our time. We are blessed that our neighbor's and community are requesting Scripture dedication's and song dedication's. ." He was a fine Christian man beyond words.
His wife Willie Ann Burgess and he married in 1909 in
Cheatham County Tennessee.
His occupations included Farming on Uncle Henry Newman's farm on Old Clarksville Pike raising tobacco. He was well known being called Strawboss as his workers would call him as Charles (Pappy) would have a piece of straw in his mouth while working to roll tobacco. Later, he left the farm to work for Bush Building Company, Werthan Bag Ind., in Nashville.
We would have Family Reunion's and in the summer I can still feel the breeze blowing my hair, eating the best sweet corn on the cob, and the very best cold cold Watermelon. I miss those days. But, blessed to have been born to share with my family.
Those times in my Life Are Treasured Precious Memories I Hold Close In My Heart with my Pappy and Mammy along with my Grand Parent's, Parent's while visiting you. His home was filled with family members visiting at anytime. Thank You Pappy and Mammy.
You Are Not Forgotten but Loved More through the stories and photo's we share with our own grandchildren and their children.
