Harold L. Schmall

Harold L. Schmall, 75, Rushville, died Friday in Rush Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 25, 1922, in Rushville, he was the son of William H. and Helen (Wilson) Schmall.

On May 30, 1946, he married Barbara (Gulde) Schmall, and she survives.

Mr. Schmall was a 1941 graduate of Rushville High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired from Rush County Schools as head custodian and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

He was also past commander of American Legion Post No. 150 and a Fraternal Order of Police associate member.

Survivors also include a son, Daniel Lee Schmall, Mattoon, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Carol) Strode, Charleston, Ill.; a brother, Paul Schmall, Corona, Calif.; a sister, Doris Rhodes, Shelbyville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Todd Funeral Home in Rushville. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville, with the Rev. Roger Rudolf officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rushville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Information from paper dated October 27, 1997 I found that my stepfather Dalton Carroll Minneman kept when he was helping the American Legion or VFW to identify veterans. Mr. Schmall was at Miller's Merry Manor in Rushville at the time.
