Death: Dec. 17, 2013
Tennessee, USA

George Estok, Jr., 67, retired insurance executive and Navy veteran, of Germantown, TN, died peacefully on December 17, 2013. Born in Trumbull, CT on August 2, 1946, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Norah Estok, and his first wife, Gretchen, to whom he was married for 35 years. George and Gretchen lived in Shorewood, WI before moving to Collierville, TN. While serving in the U.S. Navy from 1966 until 1970, he obtained his BS in Marketing from California State University Long Beach. George enjoyed more than 30 very successful years in the insurance industry including serving as president of both the Integral Insurance Company and John Deere Transportation Services. Having deep roots in Wisconsin he was a very loyal Green Bay Packer fan, a shareholder, and felt pride in being a Cheesehead. As an avid but frustrated golfer, George was a long time member of Colonial Country Club. He once stated that his only regret in this life was never hitting a hole-in-one. He also loved Christmas, reading, spending time at his beachfront condo in Florida, and being a Jimmy Buffet Parrothead. In 2008 George served as King of the Grand Krewe of Phoenix, a part of Carnival Memphis. In retirement he enjoyed volunteering for MIFA by delivering Meals on Wheels and helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity. He was an active member of Lindenwood Christian Church. George will be greatly missed by his wife, Dare Pugh Estok of Germantown, TN; two beautiful daughters, Kate (Jon) Wiesman and their two wonderful sons Ezekiel and Jack, of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Carrie (Jeremiah) Strong and their two beautiful daughters, Maggie and Abby, of Cottage Grove, WI; two stepchildren, Colli Bounds and Tom Bounds both of Memphis, TN; his sister Ann (Jack) Eckart of Mesa, AZ; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. George would light up a room when he entered and never really met anyone that didn't become a friend. He was loyal, compassionate, caring, loving and all around great guy who will be missed by so many. The memorial service and burial will be held at 1:45 p.m. on January 31, 2014 in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery located at 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, TN with a celebration of life to follow at Colonial Country Club, 2736 Countrywood Parkway, Cordova, TN. The family requests any memorials be sent to The American Cancer Society , Lindenwood Christian Church Music Department or the charity of your choice .
