J.L. Vaughn Jr., 75, of Dyersburg died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 at his residence.

He was a retired police officer for Dyersburg Police Department after 38 years, owner/operator of Vaughn Tree Service, member of Three Oaks Baptist Church, Master Mason for 50 years, member of Hess Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, fast pitch softball coach for over 50 years and an avid sportsman.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Phipps and the Rev. Paul Hogue officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors at 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Smith Vaughn of Dyersburg; two daughters, Linda Vaughn McCreary of Troy and Laura Hale of Obion; a son, Russ Vaughn of Dyersburg; three sisters, Frances Lilley of Halls, Marie Harden of Dyersburg and Mackie Slayton of Crockett Mills; three brothers, Bobby Vaughn of Gates, Danny Vaughn of Maury City and Charles Vaughn of Dyersburg; five grandchildren, Kelsey McCreary, Jacob Hale, Mikey Hale, Brad Vaughn and Lauren Vaughn; and three great-grandchildren, Elana Hale, Hunter Hale and Ryder Hale.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catina Vaughn; his parents, Joseph Lyle Vaughn and Ollie Hammond Vaughn.

Pallbearers will be Corey Mealer, Jacob Hale, Mikey Hale, Buck Vaughn, Warren Vaughn and Brian Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Williard, Jeff Harden, Donnie Harden and Kelsey McCreary.
