Bill Dorei was born Dec. 3, 1930, in El Reno, Oklahoma. He was the son of Murlin Stuart and Lurah N. (Killoren) Dorei. He moved with his parents to a farm in Leavenworth county east of McLouth in 1943. He formerly lived in White Cloud and Hamlin, Kansas. He attended and graduated from Oskaloosa High School, where his parents taught school for many years. He attended Kansas State University, and worked for TWA briefly. He fell in love with farming after spending a summer with his uncle George Killoren in Powahattan while his parents attended college. He began farming with his father, eventually taking over the operation and adding land to the farm. Bill served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He loved airplanes and bought his own, building a runway and hangar on the farm. He was a member of Airplane Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.
He married Reita A. McAferty on Aug. 29, 1954, in the McLouth EUB church. Bill was a wonderful father to their three children; Linda, Rhonda and Rick.
Bill died Tuesday, June 29, 1993, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He is buried in McLouth Cemetery.
