ROCKFORD -- Donald Walter Albright, 86, died peacefully in his home Sept. 19, 2004. Born Sept. 7, 1918, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of William J. and Mary Albright. Don came to Rockford in 1939, and worked 42 years at Rockford Products, retiring in June 1982. He married Marie Swenson in June 1942; she predeceased him in March 1977. In June 1979, he married Mildred (Musselman) Holmes; she died in March 2002. Don was a loyal member of Bethesda Covenant Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving his country aboard the aircraft carrier USS Langley in the South Pacific, and was awarded two Battle Stars. He is a former chaplain of Daniel Post American Legion. He was also active many years as a Boy Scout leader. Survived by sons, James of New Ulm, Minn., Neil (Marcie) of Rockford and Jeffrey (Cindy) of Stillman Valley; stepchildren, Bradley Holmes of Kalispell, Mont., Susan (Wes) Nelson of Rockford and Carol (Gary) Johnson of Freeport; grandchildren, Paul Albright, Laura (William) Fultz, Michael Albright, John Albright, Joseph Albright, Doug Nelson, Amy (Jeff) Loewe, Rob Johnson and Kyle Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Trevor Loewe and Olivia Albright. Don is also survived by two loving sisters, Margaret Wickre and Mary Ellen Severson, both of Sioux Falls; along with many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by parents and brother, John.
Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, in Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St., Rockford, with the Rev. J. David Wood officiating. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials to Northern Illinois Hospice or Bethesda Covenant Church. Arrangements by Fred C. Olson Funeral Chapels Ltd., East Chapel, 1001 Second Ave.
