Jacob was the oldest of four children, born to immigrant parents in the Moseytown section of Wilkes-Barre. He married Mary Elizabeth Dobson on April 5, 1893, at her parents' home at 36 Jones Street in Wilkes-Barre. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Richard B. Webster. The couple raised two children: Euada Frances and George Dobson.

Jacob worked as a machinist. He was employed by the railroad for about 40 years, and later worked for Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes-Barre.

Cause of Death: uremia due to chronic myocarditis
