Anna Marie Christine Wilhelmine Wittelmeyer Lichte
Birth: Sep. 9, 1823, Germany
Death: Feb. 6, 1876
Big Spring
Montgomery County
Missouri, USA

Anna Marie Christine Wilhelmine Wittelmeyer was born 09 Sep 1823, No. 8 Jöllenbeck, Parish Gohfeld, Prussia. She was the daughter of Johann Daniel Wittelmeyer gennant Halbert and Anne Marie Christine Viering. She married Wilhelm Lichte 22 NOV 1845 in house No. 8 in Jöllenbeck. She, her son, and daughters immigrated in 1854. They arrived 18 NOV 1854, District of New Orleans-Port of New-Orleans, aboard ship S/S Anna Delius. After traveling up the Mississippi, they joined Wilhelm in Warren County, MO.

Wilhelm and Anna Christine, along with Henry Baur, were charter members of Bethany M. E. Church at Big Spring. The church was organized in 1870, but Wilhelm died in 1872 and Anna Christine in 1876; therefore, they did not live to see the construction of a frame house of worship in 1879 at the cost of $700. By 1885 there were 60 communicants. This church is in all probability the present-day Methodist Church of Big Spring.

Christine's mother was Anne Marie Christine (Viering) Wittelmeyer. Six daughters of Christine and Wilhelm Lichte were named Christine. So many children died that it was customary to use the same given name again and again. This would keep the name alive and it served as a way to remember those long gone.

The headstone reads Anna Christine Lichter. Son Fred Lichte served in Civil War as Fred Leister.

Mrs. Lichte's obituary appeared in Der Christliche Apologete, 14 April 1876:

Saved are those who die in the Lord.
Died, as we hope, saved in the Lord, Mother Anna Christina Lichte on February 6 in Montgomery Co., Mo. She was born on August 28, 1833 in Prussia, Minden. She was a widow for several years. May it please God to draw all her children, who mourn her death, to Himself and to reunite them in Heaven.
