Howard D. Kerwick, pensioned City Hall guard and former traffic policeman at 12th and Market Streets, who was widely known for his paintings, died Sunday in Doctor's Hospital. He was 56 and lived at 1309 W. Seltzer St.
Mr Kerwick in 1936 presented the late Mayer S. Davis Wilson with a painting of "Old Ironsides". He had served as head gardener at the US Naval Home, 24th St and Grays Ferry Ave. and most of his paintings were naval subjects. He was twice cited for bravery in fire rescues durin his 23 years as a policeman.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine; a son, Howard Jr and three daughters, Claire, Margaret and Katherine. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday from Quimby's Parlors, 1125 Lehigh Ave. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery.
