On January 20, 1933 John Burke married Elizabeth Jones (1909-1958) at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Baldwin Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey and together they had two children.

Chief Quartermaster:
During the 1940s they lived at 364 Randolph Avenue in Jersey City and in the 1950s they moved to 610 Hubbard Avenue in Union, New Jersey. He worked as the Chief Quartermaster at the Department of the Navy in Brooklyn, New York as a civilian employee.

Death:
He died on May 12, 1986 at 12:20 pm at Cooper Hospital, Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. The cause of death was colon cancer. He was living at 1910 Morris Drive in Cherry Hill when he died.

Burial:
He was buried on May 15, 1986 at Saint Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. He is in block 22, section A, row K, grave 72.
