Brandon Christopher Hankins, our beautiful son, brother, and grandson, a shining light of inspiration to all who know him, he made his transition to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on June 23, 2006, where his new life begins.
Brandon was born January 8, 1986, in Kansas City, MO. He was a perfect kid in an imperfect world. His first love and fiance was Crystal Blessing and anything that included her. Second was his family. Third was his art, and last but not least was his love for playing the game of football. He worked at Dairy Queen at the Independence Center for the past four years and had just changed jobs to work for Sears in the automotive department in the past three weeks. He attended Ott Elementary K-6 and was home-schooled for 7th-9th grade. His love of football took him to William Chrisman for 10th through graduation in 2004. He played football for Chrisman, holding the kicker position, but wide receiver and quarterback were a desire. He knew in his heart that kicking was his job even though his knees, hips, and back paid for it, he rarely complained. Brandon will be deeply missed, but when Jeff and Laura gave him to Jesus as a young boy they meant it and they will cherish the time Jesus allowed them to have him. It was an ultimate experience for them and everyone he came into contact with.
Left to mourn his loss are his parents, Jeff and Laura; his younger siblings, Zach, Aaron, Christina, Seth and Nick, all of the home; grandparents, Wade and Martha Hankins, and Jim and Donna Ballantyne; aunts and uncles, Wade and Jan Hankins, Greg and Linda Hankins, Al and Jan Hankins, Ed and Beth Hankins, David and Nancy Taylor, and John Ballantyne. He also leaves numerous cousins and second cousins. Paul Ballantyne and Danny Ballantyne precede Brandon in death.
A memorial service will be held June 30, at William Chrisman High School, Independence. Brandon and Crystal Blessing will lie in state tonight at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence. Graveside services will be private.
