23 May 1923. Rebecca was born in Harrison Co Ind, the fifth child of Capt. John J and Mary Ann Kitterman Marsh. The family was originally from Sadsbury, PA., where her great grandfather was Wm. Marsh, a Capt. of militia during the Revolution. The Marsh’s homestead was near Laconia from 1820’s. Another grandfather of Rebecca’s was Freeman Battershall who was a Continental soldier in the 13th Va regiment and was at Valley Forge. She lived near Perseverance Chapel south of Corydon. Before marrying D. J Rhodes, she had one child Alonzo. She married Daniel J Rhodes 21 Oct 1894, when she was 34. They were married 29 years and had three children-Bessie, Emma and Floyd Rhodes. Of their blended family, she and Daniel treated all equally, there was no half siblings or step children-only family. She died in 1923 and is buried beside her husband, D J Rhodes in Perseverance Chapel Cemetery, south of Corydon, Ind.
