Henry Cannon, business manager and pilot The Associated Press November 8, 1997 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Henry Cannon, business manager and pilot for his wife, country comedian Minnie Pearl, died Friday. He was 80 and had cancer.

Cannon flew his wife to performances around the nation and in Nashville he often accompanied her to Grand Ole Opry shows, remaining backstage to chat with other entertainers.

Her real name was Sarah Colley Cannon. As Minnie Pearl, she was known for her homespun humor, toothy grin, shrill "Howdyyyyy!″ and straw hat with its dangling $1.98 price tag.

Minnie Pearl died March 4, 1996 of complications from a stroke.

Henry Cannon grew up in the Nashville area and graduated from Vanderbilt University. He was a pilot in the Air Force and later a commercial pilot.
