Impy is the the granddaugher of British immigrant Edward E Pickering (b. 1868) and Maine native Gertrude A Pickering (1868 - 1847).
The daughter of Herbert E Pickering (1890 - 1957) and Merle Marie Prewitt (1888 - 1938), Ida Mae's initials in high school PE class quickly landed her the lifetime nickname of "Impy." She married Wallace K Boardman (1908 - 1991) and had one child, Sandra Jo Boardman Palm (1935 - ). She later married Don E Ahern (1909 - 1975) and had one son, Don D "Duke" Ahern (1943 - ). She spent her later years in Colorado Springs with Marvin Weir (1926 - 1999). Impy is survived by both children, stepdaughters Phyllis and Bobbie, and a multitude of grandchildren.
One of Impy's many passions was writing. She adopted her mother's name, Merle, as a nom de plume to avoid the sexist stigma of women writers in the 50's! (Impy loved irony.). Some of her dectective novels are referenced online. Impy was a familar face to visitors of Outlook Lodge, which she ran in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado in the 80s.
How does one summarize a life? She gave so much and touched so many.
