Abilene Girl, 18, Dies in Mexico
Mary Glenda Taylor, 18 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quincy M. Taylor of Abilene, died suddenly in Saltillo, Mexico, Friday about 11:30 p.m.
Preliminary reports indicate that she died from a diabetic stroke after becoming seriously ill about 3 p.m. Friday. She is reported to have had no known history of diabetes.
Miss Taylor, the only daughter of her parents was attending school in Saltillo. She was a student at the University of Colorado during the regular school year. She arrived in Mexico June 10 to attend classes.
Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were notified of her serious illness about 4 p.m. Friday and immediately made plans to rush to the scene.
Their chartered plane failed to reach the site before the young Abilenian's death. The parents awaited the arrival of the body in Laredo Saturday, then returned to Abilene to make funeral plans.
The body was to arrive Abilene Saturday night.
Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Abilene, with Dr. James H. Landes, president or Hardin-Simmons University, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. Willis P. Gerhart, retired Episcopal minister of Abilene.
Following services here, the body will he taken overland to Wichita Falls where committal services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Crestview Mausoleum Chapel in Wichita Falls. The body will be placed in the Mausoleum. Elliott's Funeral Home is in charge.
Active pallbearers will be Ned Butler, David Winkles, and Dub Galbraith, all of Abilene; Joe Armstrong of San Antonio, Mike Worley of Big Spring and John Young of El Paso.
Mr. Taylor, manager of the Wooten for the past six and a half years, announced his resignation June 16. He will become manager of the Dallas Continental Inn in the Dallas suburb of Richardson July1.
Born Oct. 21, 1944, in Dallas, Mary Glenda moved with her parents to Abilene in December 1956 and graduated from Abilene High School in 1961.
Following graduation she attend Mary Baldwin College 1961-62 school year, Hardin-Simmons University the summer immediately following graduation and the Colorado university the 1962-63 school year.
She was attending the International University of Saltillo at the time of her death.
She is reported to have been a candidate for graduation at the University of Colorado next spring.
In 1960, Miss Taylor attended a 4-½ week course at the Loretta Young School of Drama in Hollywood, where she took courses in speech, modeling and stage and television drama.
She attended the Powers School of Modeling in Dallas and was nominated as football queen at the Colorado university this past year.
She and Raymond M. Thomas who will be a senior at the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, were engaged and had plans to be married following their graduations next spring.
He is a graduate of Abilene High School also. Thomas has been at Fort Benning, Ga., attending parachute jump school.
Miss Taylor was majoring in foreign languages, concentrating in French and Spanish and minoring in biological sciences. She was a member of the Alpha Phi social sorority.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colorado and attended First Baptist Church with her parents in Abilene.
