Essie Milton Bassett, 79, Afton, Wyo., died Saturday, Sept 14, 1985 at Mountain view Hospital Payson, Utah.
He was born Dec 24, 1905 at Mendon, Utah to Milo Ammon and Camilla Rasmussen Bassett. He married Ester Irene Smith, June 21, 1926 in Paris, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Funeral services will be Thursday Sept 19, at the Osmond Chapel, 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the chapel on Thursday from 10-11 a,m.
When he was five years old, the family moved to Star Valley, settling in Dry Creek Canyon. His early schooling was in Osmond. He later attended Star Valley High School.
He worked with his father and brothers in logging and with James Gomm at his sawmill in Dry Creek Canyon. Later he ran a farm west of Afton and then served as custodian at the Star Valley Stake House for 23 years, retiring in 1970.
He was active in the LDS Church, serving in scouting as clerk and secretary, in bishoprics and his high priest group.
He enjoyed the out-of-doors and spent much time hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Afton, three daughters and two sons; Mrs Thomas (Billie) Willey, Wiggins Colo; Leslie M. Bassett, Edmund Okla.; Irvin G, Bassett and Judy L Bassett both Springville Utah; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters; Ammon Bassett, Osmond; Marie Hammon, Homer Alaska; Avilda Anglesey, Willard, Utah; Fern Anglesey, Grants Pass Ore.; Marion Bassett, Lovell Wyo. and Ester Lee, Grants Pass Ore.
