Son of Henry James Eberhardt of Newark, NJ.
Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Eugene K. Eberhardt, killed during the attack on the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) in World War II, were accounted for on July 3, 2018. On Dec. 7, 1941, Eberhardt was a Machinist's Mate 1st Class assigned to the USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Eberhardt.
