Crawfordsville, la., Sept. 19. Mr. Edmund Long, an aged man who has been making his home the last few months with his son, Mr. N. L. Long, of this place, died at 8 p. m., Wednesday evening, September 12th, after an illness of several months. Mr. Long was a retired farmer and was born in Maryland, January 10, 1821. He was married in 1842 to Lydia M. Lease, who died August 27th, 1894. They were the parents of nine children, all of whom survive him. They are Nimrod L., John H., Henry L., William E., Thomas J., and Miss Julia Sewall, all of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Lydia Carl, of Muscatine; Mrs. Emma Strain, of Ainsworth; and Mrs. Mary Sewall, of Diagonal, Iowa. Mr. Long came to Iowa from Virginia in 1845, returning in 1847, but in 1850 he again moved to Iowa, and to Washington county, when has been his home ever since, save a few years he lived in Winfield. In or about 1870 he moved to a farm southeast of Ainsworth, near the camp ground, which he sold a few years ago. He was an industrious, hard-working man all his life. The funeral services were held at 10 a. m., Friday, in the M. B. church, conducted by the Rev. J. S. Cotton of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the camp ground cemetery.
