Florence was born April 28, 1891, in Deep Valley, Greene County, PA, the youngest of the nine children of James and Emma Jane [Wright] Stiles. She married Claude Spencer Boggess on September 20, 1910 in Licking County, OH, but returned to Greene County to live. The couple had 3 children while living in New Freeport, Greene County, PA. Around 1916, the family moved to Fairmont, WV, where Claude took a new job, and Florence stayed home to raise their children. While living in Fairmont, they had a fourth child who died young. In 1936, Claude took a new job and the couple moved to Charleston, WV. When he died suddenly in 1942, Florence entered the job market for the first time at age 51. She became a bookkeeper and remained with the same employer until her retirement 15 years later. Florence then moved to Gassaway, WV, where her son lived, and remained there until her death on June 15, 1960. She had a funeral in Gassaway before her body was taken to Greene County, PA for burial beside her husband. A simple graveside service had been planned, but so many people came who had known her as a child and young woman, that a second complete funeral was held.
