Funeral services for Robert E. LaRock, 58, will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the McLellan Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Mr. LaRock, a well-known resident of Ogdensburg, died Wednesday (Feb. 22, 1978) while he was on his way to a class he was attending at St. Lawrence University. He was stricken at about 10:20 a.m. in Richardson Hall, and died about 11 a.m.

Surviving are his widow, Mildred; one daughter, Julie Anne LaRock, a junior at SUNY at Brockport; two sons, Robert E. of Morristown and Jeffrey of Indian Springs, Nev.; two sisters, Sister Mary Joanna LaRock, GNSH of Yardley, Pa. and Mrs. William (Helen) Mahoney of Rochester; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers, John, Frances, Thomas and James predeceased him.

He was born in Morristown on Feb. 17, 1920, the son of Frank and Mary Story LaRock. His parents died when he was young and he went to live with his brother in Panama City. He then moved to Rochester to live with his sister, Helen, where he completed high school.

In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served until 1946. He saw service in the Pacific theater during WW II. On March 7,1944, he married Mildred E. Lackey at the base chapel at Langley Field, Va. with the Rev. Coakley officiating.

After his discharge from the army, he came to Ogdensburg. He bought a fuel oil business which he operated until he sold it to the Hall Company in 1957. He was an employee of Hall Company until 1970. Mr. LaRock was then employed as a salesman with A. J. Missert until he retired in 1972.

He returned to school in 1975 and graduated from Mater Dei College in May of,1977 where he received an associate in arts degree. He enrolled in St. Lawrence University last Fall and was working towards his BA degree.

He was a member of Notre Dame Church and was a past president of the Parish Council at Notre Dame Church. He was also a rector of the church. He belonged to the VFW, American Legion and the Ogdensburg Lodge of Elks.

Mr. LaRock was very active in community affairs and sang in the Notre Dame choir. For many years he was master of ceremonies for the Notre Dame ministrels, which benefited charitable organizations. He was a member of the literacy volunteers of St. Lawrence County and a member of the board of directors for the neighborhood center. He was also a frequent contributor to the Letters to the Editor columns in both The Journal, and Advance News.
