Bemidji Pioneer Oct. 18, 1984

Mabel Carpenter, 89, Corpus Christi, died Tuesday at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were at United Methodist Church with interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Carpenter was born July 13, 1895, at Fisher, Minn. She grew up in the Grace Lake area, living with her grandparents, Knute and Barbra Bendickson. As a young woman she worked at Hakkerup Studio in Bemidji and married Oliver Carpenter here July 21, 1917. They moved to Duluth, and returned to Bemidji in 1968. Mr. Carpenter died Aug. 21, 1975. She moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1980 and had been visiting Bemidji since summers. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Bemidji and the American Legion Auxiliary in Duluth.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Ed) Nordeim, Bemidji, and Jean (Mrs. Kenneth) Nelson, Chico, Calif.; four sons, Lawrence, Corpus Christi, Texas, Ray, Minneapolis, Kenneth, Duluth, and Oliver Jr., Dallas, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Edwin Carlson, Hammond, Ind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson and two brothers.
