Margaret Lemley Dewees was born at Richmond, Iowa, February 19, 1846 and departed this life at Grant, Iowa, January 14, 1928, aged 81 years, 10 months, 26 days. She lived the early part of her life in Washington, Iowa, where at the age of 18 she was united in marriage to David Dewees, February 6, 1867.
To this union were born eleven children, six of whom died in infancy and Iva, wife of F. A. Bixler of Corning, Iowa passed to the Great Beyond on July 17, 1898. Those who survive here are Mrs. Chris Mahaffey, Mrs. C. F. Jarvis, Frank Dewey, of Grant, Iowa, and Mrs. C. A. Miller of Massena, Iowa, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
With the exception of four years spent in Nebraska, she has spent her entire life in Iowa and has made her home at Grant, Iowa for the past fifteen years.
She was a woman of much humility, quite and retiring, seldom equaled for patience and always thinking of the comfort and welfare of others than herself, as an example of her wonderful nature, she remarked during her last illness, “I do not know why I have to suffer so long, but I am not complaining. I have lived a great life, I am satisfied.”
For the last fifteen years, she has been confined to her home suffering from an affliction, which prevented her from visiting her friends and neighbors, which in former years was one of her great satisfactions. She has been a faithful member of the Methodist Church for fifty years, transferring her membership to her home church four years ago besides her immediate family, she leaves to mourn her loss oe brother, Perry Lemley, and two sisters, Mrs. Malissa Look and Mrs. Dora Randall all of Kalona, Iowa and a host of other relatives and friends.
