Gautier Youth Drowns In Bayou

Gautier - A boating accident here Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 15 year old Gautier youth. Steven Aaron Buehl, son of Mr. & Mrs. Michael L. Buehl, 2325 Bayou View Circle, was pronounced dead on arrival at Singing River Hospital at 5:56 Tuesday. Coroner Benny Bryant said an inquest jury held that the death was accidental.

Deputy Sheriff Dale Ashley said the drowning victim and Pete Adams, 9, went out in Bayou Castille in a boat which had been abandoned by Buehl's family about a year and a half ago. The boat had been on shore, Ashley learned, but the two boys attempted to fix it and use it Tuesday afternoon. Ashley said the boat sank beneath them and Adams jumped out of it to safety. Buehl was unable to swim and apparently went down with the boat about 2:30 p.m.

Buehl's body was recovered about 5:15 p.m. by the Jackson County Sheriff's Flotilla. The victim's body was taken to Singing River Hospital by Rescue 4 ambulance.
