Merrill was the son of Ira H. Beham and Alice May Johnson. Ira Beham was the son of Michael Beham and Margaret Smith. Alice was the daughter of David D. Johnson and Maranda Abigail Bogardus. Maranda was the daughter of Jacob Ephraim Bogardus and Harriet B. Coffin.

"BEHAM, Ira H., age 78, of 2231 Williams street, passed away in a local hospital Friday, October 24, (1947). Mr. Beham had been a resident of this community for the past three years and was a retired school teacher. Deceased had attended the Broadway United Presbyterian church, and was a member of Whatcom lodge No. 151, F. & A. M. Surviving relatives are three sons, Merrill, of Bremerton, Wesley, of Poulsbo, and LeRoy, of Olympia; and one granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald, of Bremerton. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth, where services will be conducted by the Rev. G. Raymond White and officers of the Masonic lodge. Tuesday, October 28, at 1:30 p. m. Final resting space, Greenacres Memorial Park."

Merrill first married Ella Francis Gibson on 12 May 1923 in South Bend, Washington. She was the daughter of William and Bertha Gibson. Merrill and Ella divorced.

Merrill then married Rose Sofie, in Seattle, Washington, on 15 June 1935. Rose was the daughter of George Sofie and Christina Scaringi.

"Services for Merrill Beham, 80, will be Saturday at 11 A.M. at the at the Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Beham, who was dedicated to local Masonic activities died Wednesday at home. He was born in Centerville, S.D. on Aug. 24, 1900 and grew up in the midwest.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War I, Mr. Beham moved to Bremerton in 1924 to take a job at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He married the former Rose Sofie in Bremerton on June 15, 1935.

He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until 1961, retiring as an electrical progressman, and he was a member of the National Association of Federal Retired Employees. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 574.

His Masonic memberships in Bremerton included: past master, Charleston Lodge F and AM, past High Priest and current secretary, Olympus Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; past illustrious master, Naval Council Number 11, Royal and Select Master; past commander and current recorder of the Malta Commandry No. 18, Knights Templar, the Knights of York Cross of Honor and Master of Arch No. 4, Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Washington.

He was also a member of the Nile Temple, Seattle Shrine; and the Kitsap County Shrine, Club Legion of Honor. Mr. Beham was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 239, Bremerton; past commander of VFW District No. 4; a 50 year member of the Bremerton American Legion Post; a member of the Bremerton Elks; and the Gold Mountain Mens Club.

Memorial may be made in his name to the Royal Arch Masons Childrens' Heart Foundation, Inc., 7803 8th Avenue, N.E. Seattle, 98115."
